Summary
The present article offers an extensive review of the scientific literature, clarifying the conceptual framework of the notion of absorptive capacity at the macro level. The study of Bulgaria's absorptive capacity in terms of research and development aims to highlight the national strategic goals set for R&D and the extent to which they have been achieved during the examined period. It explores the priorities of European policy in the field of science and innovation and how Bulgaria can benefit from the current multiannual financial framework. All these issues are directly related to the country's current absorptive capacity and the opportunities for its enhancement, transforming Bulgaria into an attractive location for high-tech transnational corporations (TNCs) and TNCs whose activities generate high added value.
